— As Ohna Sergeant Awuse Describes Emolga Council Boss As A Pacesetter
The executive chairman of Emohua local government council, Dr. Chidi Lloyd has advised residents of the local government area to imbibe the habit of cleaning their immediate environments in order to protect themselves from infections associated with dirty environment.
The council chairman gave the advice while monitoring the special environmental sanitation exercise held across Emohua local government area on Saturday.
He said the special environmental sanitation exercise introduced by his administration is intended to encourage cleanliness and healthy living in the local government area.
According to the council chairman; “We must not wait for the state government to declare environmental sanitation exercise before we clean our environment, we must make it a habit in order to protect ourselves from ailments associated with dirty environments.
“We have set aside today as our own special environmental sanitation day and the intention is to encourage our people to imbibe the habit of cleaning up their residential and business premises and to promote healthy living in the local government area”.
Dr. Lloyd asserted that his administration is the first to introduce local government sanitation exercise outside the monthly statewide sanitation exercise that holds every last Saturday of every month in River State, stressing that responsibilities such as environmental sanitation must not be left for the state government alone.
Iyked by the indiscriminate dumping of refuse at Emohua central junction in Rumuakunde, along the East-West road, Dr. Lloyd directed the chairman of the local government environmental sanitation committee, Chief Emmanuel Okogbule to interface with the leadership of the community to provide an alternative refuse dump for residents of the area, emphasizing that refuse dumping is highly prohibited along the East-West road.
Also at Rumuakunde junction where commercial motorcycle operators usually obstruct free flow of traffic with indiscriminate parking of motorcycles, the council chairman directed the environmental sanitation committee to provide a temporary parking space for the motorcycle operators to save them from the danger associated with parking along on a major high way such as the East-West road.
At Ogbakiri junction where the council chairman in company of the vice chairman, Hon Mrs Edna Nyeche supervised the mechanized evacuation of indiscriminately dumped refuse, Dr Lloyd urged the local government committee on illegal structures to ensure that no building is erected under the electricity lines.
He also ordered for the immediate demolition of all structures erected on drainages and water channels along the road.
The council chairman and his team also visited some strategic locations within the local government headquarters, such as Isiodu junction, Emohua ultramodern market, Mgbuetor junction, Elibrada junction, as well as the NYSC secretariat opposite the local government council secretariat.
Meanwhile, Elder statesman, Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse has commended Dr Chidi Lloyd for always setting the pace for others to follow.
The political bulldozer who made a brief stopover at Emohua ultramodern market where Dr. Chidi Lloyd and his team were monitoring the level of compliance to the sanitation exercise, described the introduction of a local government sanitation exercise by the administration of Dr Chidi Lloyd as first of its kind in local government administration in Rivers State.
Applauding the council chairman’s commitment to reposition Emohua local government area, Sergeant Awuse prayed for God’s continuous protection and provision upon the Emolga Boss to enable him actualize his vision for the people of the local government area.
The next environmental sanitation exercise in the local government area is expected to pay attention to other strategic locations such as Daewoo/C4i bust stop, Rumuji/Ibaa junction, Rundele/UOE junction, Elele-Alimini/Rumuekpe junction and other busy locations across Emohua local government area.
